How to Take Care of Your Pet During Summer

Introduction

Summer can be challenging for our furry friends. Dogs are sensitive to heat and require special care during hot weather to stay safe and healthy.

Keep Your Dog Hydrated

Always provide clean, fresh water. Make sure their water bowl is placed in a shaded area and refill it frequently, especially after walks.

Walks During Cooler Hours

Avoid walking your dog during peak sun hours. Early mornings or late evenings are safer and more comfortable for your pet.

Protect Their Paws

Asphalt can get extremely hot and burn your dog’s paw pads. Touch the pavement with your hand — if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.

Adjust Their Diet

  • Offer lighter meals during extreme heat.
  • Include water-rich foods like cucumbers or watermelon (no seeds).
  • Try adding ice cubes to their water bowl.

Signs of Heatstroke

Watch for warning signs such as:

  • Excessive panting
  • Thick drooling
  • Weakness or disorientation
  • Vomiting or diarrhea

If you suspect heatstroke, immediately move your dog to a cooler place and contact a veterinarian.
